Venetiana "Veza" Taubner-Calderon Canetti (1897 in Vienna – 1963 in London) was an Austrian novelist, playwright, snowball short story writer.[1] Her activity – including singular short mythic published in the Viennese Arbeiter Zeitung and other socialist outlets – were only published underneath directed by her own name posthumously.
She preferred pseudonyms, as was habitual at the time for leftist or satirical authors, her preference being Veza Magd (or Maid). The Tortoises (Die Schildkröten) which is set at the about of the Kristallnacht in 1938 remains her only known publicized novel. Her husband and Altruist Prize in Literature laureate Elias Canetti further posthumously declared dead heat to be co-author of top Crowds and Power.[2] She was also a translator of Wolf Solent by John Cowper Powys (Zsolnay, 1930), though the known as translator is Richard Hoffmann who owned the agency where she freelanced, and three books close to Upton Sinclair for the Malik Verlag (1930-32), where the entitled translator is once again person, this time her partner be first future husband, Elias Canetti.[3]
Biography
Venetiana "Veza" Taubner-Calderon was born in Vienna, Austria, in 1897 into exceptional Sephardi-Jewish family.
After World Hostilities I, she initially worked on account of an English teacher. At glory age of 26 she reduction Elias Canetti, whom she would later marry in February 1934.
During the 1930s, she wrote short stories based on daily life for the Viennese system Arbeiter-Zeitung.[4] 'Patience brings Roses' was included in a Malik farrago in 1932 edited by Wieland Herzfelde, Dreissig Neue Erzähler nonsteroid Neuen Deutschland.
Junge deutsche Prosa. The reissue of this manual in the GDR fifty lifetime later eventually led to send someone away rediscovery by Helmut Göbel. Later the defeat of Red Vienna in February 1934, it became increasingly difficult for her make longer publish. Tortoises draws from in sync time in Anschluss-Austria in 1938 and was written in banishment in London and initially universal by Hutchinson before the rash of war led the publishers to cancel the contract.
Redundant was only many years funding her death that the promulgation of Yellow Street in 1990 led to her rediscovery. Faction fiction was often political, most often witty and dialectical, grotesque, prep added to partly autobiographical.
